A lot of people don't like joining guilds because they've had bad experience with retarded members before. I had that experience once, I was in a terrible guild. I guess that's why I appreciate my current guild all the more.

After GWing for a couple of years, I finally found a guild that matched me. I was considering starting my own when I saw an advertisement here for a guild established for the exact same purposes I had in mind (even the same sig I was considering). So I joined it. It's the first "clean", friendly guild I have been in. It's the first guild I have actually done stuff with the other members. It's small and has a purpose other than collecting members. So, I was guildless by choice for a very long time and expected to stay that way; but it is very unlikely that there is not a guild started by someone a lot like yourself with the same motives and values. Keep your eyes open, or you may miss something that adds a whole new dimension to the game.

My biggest problem is that I am quite shy in game, and do find it quite hard asking others for guild membership, so it does quite lonely slugging through this game all alone, (all my friends that used to play left for WoW ).

Sure there are plenty of guilds out there who would love to snap anyone up, however from past experiences most of the guilds I come across, apart from a large majority being downright immature, most just don't have any sense of community, most just login and do their own thing, seldom do they make conversation or get together, they might do the odd AB, unplanned GvG, etc. but you just get the feeling that you're missing out on a proper guild experience. Makes me sad sometimes when I see other people in guilds having fun with guildies and such.
